About the season:
Romeo and Juliet
Director Katie Logan seeks to illuminate the modernity and emotional strength of Romeo and Juliet in a non-linear exploration. By twisting the timeline of Shakespeare’s words and scenes, she hopes to deconstruct the traditional romance, shining light on the unexposed corners of a familiar play.
Romeo and Juliet is Empty Chair’s first roving show and will tour the D.C. area and surrounding communities-- Rehearsals begin in July and performances will be booked non consecutively through mid-August.
Under the direction of Elizabeth Nearing, a small cast will dive deep into the immersive world of Hamlet’s Denmark to create a living, breathing story that defies theatre’s comfortable conventions.
Empty Chair’s site specfiic Hamlet embraces the idea of environmental theatre and will explore the show outside of an usual generic theatre space. Rehearsals are expected to begin in July.
